Day 4/5/6

Hola from MEXICO!

Sorry we haven’t updated every day (Like we had hoped we would!)

Day 4 – Tuesday

Beach Day at the Catalonia Yucatan! David woke up feeling less than spunky for Mexico. He has a stuffed nose and a really bad back of the head headache. We spent the morning lounging on beach chairs along the ocean. After lunch David was feeling pretty yucky so we went back to our hotel room and slept for 4 hours until 7pm. We woke up and went to the little store in the hotel and bought some ‘decongestant’ pills. These haven’t provided any relief yet! :(  David’s headache was gone when he woke up! :) We had reservations for the Mexican restaurant. The food was great, atmosphere was fantastic and we even got our picture taken with sombreros on! (It was a good thing we went back to the room to sleep and get out of the sun because Melissa was badly burnt without even realizing it! The sun is SO different down here than at home!) We sat in the ‘Lobby Bar’ and listened to a couple sing for a bit. They were really good!

Day 5 – Wednesday

This day started early with a ‘Underwater World Tour.’ Leaving from our hotel we went to an underground cenote. (A cenote is an underground river) We climbed down into a cave filled with water and snorkeled. What a cool experience! This cenote was filled with fresh water and few fish. We then went to Akumel to snorkel some more and swim with sea turtles. WOW! Melissa thinks they looks just like the ones in ‘Finding Nemo’ SO cool! (Mike E – we found the place for you to start your turtle sanctuary – there were even baby ones!) We then snorkeled along the second largest coral reef in the world. It’s unfortunate that hurricane Wilma killed most of it, but it was still pretty cool! We spent the rest of the day on the beach. David still has a stuffy nose. We took the free hotel shuttle into Playa Del Carmen. We were dropped off shortly after 6:30pm and found a place to have Mexican Tacos. Mmmm We walked around until 10pm when we hailed a taxi to bring us back early (the shuttle was returning to get us at 11pm). Playa Del Carmen’s Tourist area is a busier Isla shopping street. It’s a pedestrian street filled with many little shops (including a few Starbucks, Senior Frogs and Burger King restaurants). We didn’t find anything to buy. We did enjoy a nice cold cup of gelato.

Day 6 – Thursday

Beach day! David scoped out some really good spots in the shade today! Perfect! In between two palapas with a palm tree in the middle! We spent some of the morning snorkling in the ocean right in front of the resort. We brought our own snorkel gear! The fish are amazing! People feed them bread and bananas and there are 20-30 bigger fish swimming around you! David laughs as Melissa makes noises at them and has small freak outs when they ‘get in her personal space!’ David now has a sore throat. Apparently this isn’t just David as we’ve met at least 2 other couples who’s men are having similar problems. He’s still enjoying Mexico though! This evening we have dinner reservations at the Italian restaurant for 9:30. Apparently it’s amazing food there!  Just before we started posting this post there was loud cracks of thunder and strikes of fork lightning. We might be in for a little storm! As long as it does this during the night we are okay with it. Just now we can smell rain and feel it cooling off a bit. Still so much better than snow! :)

We are having a wonderful time!

OH – We’ve now seen 3 weddings! All were different and very beautiful! We met with the wedding planning assistant this evening just to make contact! She is fantastic! We are both very excited to be getting married here in less than 10 months.

That’s all for now!

Tomorrow we are taking a tour of the jewelry factory in the morning. The rest of the day will hopefully be spent by the swim up bar enjoying the fruity slushy goodness that this place has to offer!
